Valeria asks Byron Katie, “What do you mean when you say ‘We’re not thinking; we’re being thought’?” “It’s just something I throw out there to help you understand that you don’t have control—to see for yourself how much control you have over the thoughts that appear in your mind,” Katie says. “In my world, I have none. Zero.” “That works for me,” Katie says, “because I understand that the universe is friendly. I understand our true nature. So I don’t need to have control. It’s okay not to.” “So where is our free will?” Valeria asks. “It’s an illusion,” Katie says. “Wow,” Valeria says. “Then the only thing we can do is identify the thinking, question it, and then decide.” “Yes,” Katie says, “and then see what you’re left with,” Katie says with a big smile.
Byron Katie: Who’s next? Valeria from Argentina. Valeria: Hi. Hi. Hi, Valeria. Hi. It’s nice to meet you. Thank you. Nice to meet you too. What did you write? I have this question for you. What do you mean when you say: We’re not thinking. We’re being thought. We’re being breathed. So, it’s just something I just threw out there to help you understand that you don’t have control. Or if not, to help you understand that you don’t have control. I would say it differently. To see for yourself how much control you really do have. For me, I have none. None. Zero. And that works for me, because I understand the universe is friendly. I understand our true nature. So, I don’t have to have control. It’s okay not to. That way I’m . . . So, where is our free will? Well, it’s an illusion. Wow. OK. So, the only thing we can do is just identify the thinking, question it and then decide. That’s it. Yes and see what you’re left with. OK. Yeah. Yeah. What a great way of putting it. You know, no free will for me, it’s like my entire . . . Let’s say your entire life in this moment is over. Everything you’ve ever thought, ever been, ever lived, ever seen, ever done, in this moment now, it’s done. It’s over. So, where is free will? So, now if you do this with your head. You want me to do that? Yeah, uh-huh. OK. OK. It’s over. OK. It’s in the past. So, where is free will? We’re living the past. Well, we see images in our head and then we believe. We put a story on that and we believe it. And so that is this false identity that we wear. Wow. That we believe ourselves to be. It’s all so simple really. OK. But when we get caught up in it, like you see the past or future and you become depressed or frightened, then you identify that story in your head and you put it on that Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet and then as you question it you wake up to reality. And for me, I don’t take shortcuts, because I really . . . It’s like, no one wants to be fools so I don’t want to live like one. Kind of like that. So, thank you, Valeria and I’ll leave on that maybe comical note. OK. Thank you. Thank you. Bye, bye.
