Ilonka tells Byron Katie that her children are among the many who have been injured by vaccines. How can she find peace through The Work when there are such injustices in the world? “I flip-flop between being angry and trusting that there is a divine order to everything. How do I find peace when kids are suffering as sacrificial lambs to make the pharmaceutical companies richer?” “Is it true?” Katie asks. “Can you really know it’s true that your children have been injured by vaccines?” The dialogue that follows is an example of how difficult it can be to do The Work when the ego’s treasures concepts are at stake. Katie points out repeatedly how the ego puts up fierce resistance to giving honest answers to the four questions of The Work. How do you deal best with social injustice?” Katie asks. “When you’re worried or when you’re free? So do The Work. Do it for the love of peace, which is more important than anything.” © 2015 Byron Katie International, Inc. All rights reserved
Byron Katie: So, Elanka from Boca Raton. Elanka: Yes, hi. Hi. Hi, honey. Hi. Hi. Good to see you. Thank you. So, what did you write? Well, this is what I wrote. “My children and many other children injured by vaccines. I flip-flop between being angry that this happened and continues to happen to many children with ever more vaccines being pushed on us as a society and trusting that there is a divine order to everything.” “How do I find peace when kids are continuing to be harmed and are suffering as sacrificial lambs to make the pharmaceutical companies richer?” Yeah, well, sweetheart, you know I have a lot of grandchildren and when my children were growing up we didn’t give it a thought; we just thought: Oh, yay. They won’t get measles. You know? And they won’t get polio. And we really; it really looked to us like it worked. Everything, all those diseases, began to not only diminish but it was radical. So, you have that to look back on, you know, in history. And you have what you have now. And you have all the newspaper articles and etcetera to make your own decisions with. So, here’s how I found peace with it. OK? And it’s odd that you should, you know, the timing here, because two weeks ago I took my granddaughter, she’s 11 years old, and I took her to the pediatrician at my daughter’s request, and son-in-law. They gave her five shots, separately. Five. The month before or three months before, whatever it was, they gave her six at one time. And she has to do another round. And so that was very odd for me. So, let’s look at this. So, “your children and many others have been injured by vaccines.” Injured meaning they have suffered terrible consequences, right? Yeah. OK. So, “your children and many others have been injured by vaccines.” Is it true? Can you really know that it’s true? That your children; let’s just stick with that. That “your children have been injured by vaccines.” Yes. I think it’s true. OK. So, just feel your yes without: I think it’s true. OK? So, just feel your yes. OK? So, “your children have been injured by vaccines.” Is it true? Can you really know that it’s true? “They’ve been injured by vaccines.” I know that they’ve been physically… OK, so now this is really good what you’re doing. The answer to the first two questions is yes or no. Otherwise, your ego will spin you; it’ll spin you out everywhere. So, this Work, it’s like: Is it true? All four questions. They are; we’re really meditating on those questions and the concept. And then the answer is either yes or no. And you just wait. You contemplate the question before you answer, just the way that you’ve done. Only just watch how difficult it is for the ego just to land on one answer or the other. But what I love about this Work is we don’t have to guess. You can visualize your children harmed by that vaccination. In other words, you can picture it. Be in that situation and answer yes or no as you contemplate that. The images will show you. So I’ll ask it again and then you land on your yes or no and there is no right or wrong answer. There is only your answer. And as you investigate. So, “your children have been injured by vaccines.” Is it true? Can you really know that it’s true? That “they’ve been injured by vaccines.” Yes. OK, so just feel that. And you saw it in you mind’s eye. You saw your children. You saw their injury. You know, I see my children as OK. OK. So, let’s work with other children. That’s where I have the hard time. I feel like… OK. So, “other children have been injured by vaccines.” Yes. Now, what situation do you have in mind? Have you seen these children? Have you read it in newspapers? Have you heard it from friends? I know hundreds of mothers and there’s a 6-month-old baby that just died the night of his vaccines in Florida. OK, so that’s the one we’re gonna look at. OK? So, “this baby died. This baby was injured by the vaccine.” Um-hmm. Is it true? Can you absolutely know that it’s true? “This child died because of the vaccine?” Because of him… OK. OK. So, this is… Nathan and I were talking earlier about how the ego loves to shift things around and we’re really meditating on this. And this is the third time we’ve shifted. It was from my children and their children to my children to their children. So, the ego is just really… So, let’s stay with it and it’s a yes or no. “That child died because of the vaccination.” Is it true? Can you really know that it’s true? That “that’s why the child died”? I believe that it’s true. OK, so notice how you… OK, and still doing it. You’re not alone. People who find The Work; this is it. There’s inquiry and then there’s argument. But I feel like… Not argument so much as defense. It’s defense. I feel like my question isn’t whether or not kids are being injured by vaccines. I feel like I know that. My question is how do I… … find peace with it? How do we deal with any social injustice that’s happening? How do we… So, how do we find peace with it? How do we work toward helping or changing when things are happening that are… So, where do you do your best Work? Where do you do your; where do you find the wisest; where do you find the wisdom inside of you? When you’re free? Or when you’re worried? When I’m free. OK. So, that answers your question. When our mind is clear, and we’re free, we make the right decisions. We’re clear. So, inquiry brings us to that kind of; to that… … to that birthright. A free mind. So, this can feel like going to the dentist at first because the ego will shift it around. But when you’re in peace, that’s all you can see. OK, so that’s when I do my Work. Oh, yes. Yes. I do my Work if I’m rattled about something. And then on the other side of that, the most amazing clarity comes. But I can’t say when it’s going to come. It’s just there because I’m awake to something else. And you find when you’re working with these parents and these children, your attitude is completely different. They are worried. You’re not. They’re unclear. You’re clear. They don’t know what to do. You do. OK. That’s how it works. But I don’t call this The Work for nothing. I understand. Because our ego would say: Oh, this is gonna take me to where I’m not worried about me, I’m worried about them. You know… I’m not… It will just go all the places you went and… Good. Good. So, would you like to continue or do you think you have what you were looking for? I think I have what I’m looking for. Thank you. OK. You’re very welcome. Thank you. And thank you for the work you do with these parents and these children and for the; for your heart in this matter. You know, I don’t know what those shots do to my granddaughter. I have no idea. And I could say: No, I’m not taking her to the doctor. When my daughter and son-in-law requested it. I could say: No, I’m not going to do that. But who am I? I trust her parents to know. Now, with my children, would I have them vaccinated again? Let’s see. The school system wouldn’t take them otherwise. So, “I had to do it.” Is it true? No. Who made the decision to do it? I did it. And if that vaccine hurts my child, I have no way of really knowing, from my position. But I take responsibility for it because I made the choice. Right. Yeah. So, how do I live with that? I do The Work. And I do The Work for the love of peace because I understand the clarity that comes out of that is worth it. It’s a happy life. So, I do The Work for the love of peace, which is more important than anything. Because it’s where we do; it’s where we are the clearest with the rest of our lives. OK. Thank you again for your good Work. Thank you. Bye bye.
