The Work discovered me in 2001 and we have been having a love affair ever since. Like any love affair, I have strayed, been neglectful, and smug, but when I’m feeling despondent, guilty, or resentful, I know to return to the Four Questions and Turnaround and get right with her again. When I’m too hard on myself or others, or unkind in any way, The Work brings me back to inner peace, joy, gratitude, love and humor. As Katie says “If the baby is having a nightmare, wake the baby up!” The Work reminds me “Reality” is always and only the mind’s creation and if I am not happy with the reality I am creating I can question and change it.
I am a retired addiction specialist with twenty plus years in the field and when The Work found me it found a willing recipient. Taking others' inventory comes pretty natural to me even as a recovering person and the price is always instant misery. To have the means to turn my judgments around and see how they are always about me has been a miracle. To make it available to others has been a godsend. For me, The Work is the Serenity Prayer in action: “God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.”
If something I have said resonates with you, give me a call and we can walk the path together. I am available by phone or in person.
