After coming home to an empty house one day in 2017, I called the Do The Work Helpline with the thought, “my husband left me.” In 30 minutes, I woke up to a reality I could not conceive of as possible and a radical self-responsibility that I had yet to experience in my lifetime up until that point, consciously. I saw all how I had left me, left him, and where he was returning to me, in my experience of myself. Life before the work had me in the grips of addictive thinking, where every image, thought, and feeling was taken personally and literally. Practicing the work daily over the last five years has given me, again and again, the experience of the authenticity of life with clarity, joy, and integrity. As a teacher, mentor, and entrepreneur, The Work has informed all my interpersonal relations and has informed me of how to polish my own mirror.* I have worked in areas of family and childhood trauma, addiction, abuse, separation from parent/spouse, divorce, rape, and money. My most cherished work has been around concepts and experiences of grief, death, and dying. The willingness to sit and be held in self-inquiry has yielded transformation and clarity. For me, The Work is alchemical. I love that I get to hold others in the space of self-inquiry and experience transmutation of life as we know it.
