When The Work found me in 2003, I had recently completed my counseling MA. I was in the middle of a transition from working for others to running my own Montessori school. I was also changing residences. Most of my experience was lost in thought, running around as “a head with my chicken cut off.” I immediately connected with the message of The Work. Something was profound and amazing about Byron Katie and her work. I had been an avid seeker for most of my life through many spiritual and professional development systems and paradigms. Something about The Work was distinctly different from what I had previously encountered. The Work slowly began to gain momentum and effect in my life. Seeing Katie in person and listening to audio recordings was mind-blowing and deepened my understanding of The Work. Gradually, I became more comfortable with being honest about my judgments about others and committing those to paper. It became clearer the more I did it how these judgments, when met with The Work, would bring me to a deeper level of clarity. I judged my family, friends, employees, money, spiritual concepts, parents at my school, and yes, even the children at my school. Each time, greater clarity would be the result.
The Work continues to show me freedom through my honest judgments written down and met with the 4 questions and the turnarounds. As a result of abiding in The Work, I am much less lost in thought than when The Work found me. Yes, I still catch myself being in other people’s business and arguing with reality (“knowing what should be happening.”) I still see past conditioning arise. I still get triggered by people and circumstances. Now though, there is space and an openness to seeing that and to using the 4 questions and the turnarounds to question my thoughts and perspective.
There is here a growing proficiency in using The Work to bring freedom and being able to hold the space for others and myself to answer the 4 questions and turnarounds. Even though I am reminded quite frequently of the apparent suffering in individuals’ lives, I have seen The Work consistently be able to meet people where they are at and bring relief. I see The Work as an amazing gift and opportunity. Please contact me if you would like to work with me or have any questions. It would be my honor to support you in your process of doing The Work.
I currently run an educational app company and manage a small food forest.
I do The Work with groups, couples, or individuals using Skype, Zoom, or phone.
